magazines Front cover, contents page and a double
page spread of any genre we desire.
Research
I am going to first research the design of other front covers to give me some
vague ideas of how to set my magazine out.
here are some samples....
Smash Hits
Smash hits was a pop based magazine aimed for children and young female teenagers. Smash Hits was founded in 1977 the first issue was published in November 1978 and featured Blondie on the front cover. The Magazine came to an end in 2006 due to declining sales. The name Smash Hits still survives as a television channel, Radio station and a website.

This edition of the smash hits magazine cover features many different pop stars but hardly says anything about the pop
stars music, it talks about other things for example, '19 red carpet looks, what the stars really think of chantelle, inside preston's mind, stars exposed' this is because nobody wants to read about the stars music they want to hear about all the nasty things about them. The colour of the magazine is pinks, white and yellow, the main colour is bright pink (fuscia) this gives a tacky, cheesy, young vibe off the magazine and would attract certain types of readers to read the magazine, The yellow separates the certain sub-heading from the rest of the magazine. Most of the text on the smash hits magazine have all been angled differently and been given different fonts, colours and sizes this is to show the informality, youth and relaxation in the magazine. The model on the cover of this magazine is Preston from the band 'The Ordinary Boys' who also was a contestant of 'celebrity big brother 2006' at the time that this particular smash hits magazine was published Preston was a hit with the young girls and everyone wanted to know things about him.

This Rolling stones music magazine features Shania Twain on the front cover holding a microphone above her head basically saying 'look at me i'm a singer'. The headings on the front of the magazine are cleverly put around her slender body this grabs the readers eye to Shania and want to read more about who she is. Although Shania Twain does not sing rock which is the genre of this magazine she has been made to look like she does by what she is wearing this creates enigma's for the reader and will make the reader more determined to read on. Two of the headings on the magazine have boxes round them with large writing in them which grab the readers eyes this has made the good bits of the magazine stand out for the reader so they don't have to spend time looking for them.
This magazine is a fashion music magazine every cover has a picture with someone winking on the front. I like the look of this magazine because it stands out and is very interesting. It stands out because it's very simple and has no writing on it this makes it not look like your average magazine and draws you to it. The face on the front is looking at you and it looks like its saying 'you know you want me'. I have not seen a cover of the i-D magazine without someone winking. This is like their signature.

Here i have made preliminary magazine cover this was to practice using the InDesign Adobe software and get to know how to set magazine's out properly. The thing I like about my cover the most is the way i have put the text around my model this enables you to read the text clearer and draws your eyes to the model more, I got this idea from the 'RollingStone' magazine that I have analysed. I also like how I have used a brick wall as the background this make my magazine appeal to the younger generation. The disadvantages I have noticed about my magazine is that I think the name of my magazine could have been a lot bigger to attract the eye of the reader because at the moment it looks boring and unattractive. I also think I should have put a lot more on it and made it look busier because it looks boring and for old people really, well I wouldn't look twice at it on a shelf. Some of the text on this magazine cover is in random places and quite near to the edge I should have set a margin for it and maybe I could have put the text in boxes this would have made it appeal a lot more to its audience.

The contents page I am going to make has to consist of lots of information to show the reader what's in the magazine and show there is a lot in it. I don't want the contents page to have too much writing on because otherwise the reader will loose interest I want it to be simple bold and clear. I also want to put a couple of pictures of my artist to make the reader just look for that page. When I make my contents page I will probably change it quite a lot, i'm not sure anymore if I want it to look as simple as before but maybe busy but clear and not everywhere.
